Brian Afek is the co-founder and principal of AK Hydro, bringing over 17 years of diverse experience in managing and executing projects related to dams, levees, and flood control structures. Brian has successfully led more than 15 projects across the Great Lakes region, overseeing dam and levee inspections, analysis, design, construction oversight, and emergency response efforts.  He has performed assessments, evaluations, and designs for high hazard embankments, spillways, emergency spillways, and lake drains. His background serving as a department manager, project manager, geotechnical engineer, and construction inspector allows him the ability to deliver comprehensive solutions to complex projects. Brian is dedicated to ensuring client satisfaction, adhering to schedules, and delivering projects within budget. Brian is a graduate of the Ohio State University and holds a professional engineering license in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana.

Brian is passionate about dam safety engineering and has been active in Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) since 2013. Brian has authored or co-authored and has presented and authored seven technical proceedings at National and Regional Conferences. In addition, Brian was one of the lead authors of an instructional webinar for waterstop selection and installation in hydraulic structures. Brian was a co-author of an article of the complete reconstruction of the lower lake at Mt. Gilead State Park (owned by ODNR) in the 2017 Another Dam Newsletter published by Ohio Dam Safety Organization.
